Company of Cooks approached me to produce a film to mark their 21st Birthday. After discussing ideas, we decided to create a promotional documentary that celebrated their past and also inspired staff and partners about the future. CoC prides itself on its relationships and hospitaliity, soI felt it was important to me the film felt personal and not 'corporate'.
I wanted to include a diverse range of staff voices and was given free access to a host of sites and people. Ironically the most elusive subject was CEO Mike Lucy, who felt he wouldn't make a good interviewee! However, I was prepared and agreed to meet him where the company first started. After some initial 'corporate speak', I steered him to a more emotive discussion. Eventually, spontaneous thoughts and feelings came tumbling out and we got a deeply personal insight that we decided to begin the film with!
I had the honour of introducing this film at their staff party and tears rolled down people's eyes. I knew we had hit the spot and the film was so successful, it was subsequently used for recruitment and pitching for new contracts.
